About Arenal Volcano

The Arenal Volcano area is the most popular touristic attraction of Costa Rica, a beautiful Rainforest Region with an amazing conic shaped volcano, located in the Northern Plains of the country. Arenal is a place with great scenic beauty where many hotels of all prices and types can be found, as well as endless opportunities for activities; this combination of factors makes it the ideal place to visit during a Costa Rica Vacation.

The touristic boom around this area started back in the 1980’s, when people from all over the country and all over the world came to see the large lava flows on the slopes of the volcano, quite a beautiful show to see especially at night. The main town is called “La Fortuna”, a small Costa Rican rural town that used to be dedicated mainly to agriculture and cattle rising but has now tourism as its main activity. This town has all the basic services and is very safe, which makes it even more attractive for its visitors.

Arenal Volcano has multiple activities that can be done, like white water rafting, zip lining, horseback riding, hanging bridges hikes, wildlife observation hikes, cultural farming tours, waterfall rappelling, ATV’s and many others. Some of the most popular attractions around Arenal are the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, the Venado Caves, Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano National Park.
