About Sarapiqui Rainforest

The Sarapiqui Rainforest area is one of the emerging touristic regions of Cosa Rica; this is a very nice and natural area of the country that is worth to be explored. Sarapiqui is just starting to be developed, with a handful of rustic hotels and local restaurants, but the place definitely has the potential to become a big touristic Region of Costa Rica.

Sarapiqui offers many interesting activities such as White Water Rafting in the Sarapiqui River, as a matter of fact, the class II-III rafting on this river is considered as the best in all Costa Rica. The area also offers nature walks at the various reserves, like the Tirimbina Biological Reserve which also has a unique-traditional chocolate tour; the La Selva Biological Station and the Selva Verde Reserve. Other activities in this area are nature walks, pineapple tours, boat rides to observe wildlife, among others that are just developing.

The main towns in this region are called “Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui” and “La Virgen”, these are 2 small rural towns where the newer generations are starting to be interested in tourism, but where the main activities are still cattle rising, agriculture and local retail.
